3 - Exodus, Iowa, and the Mormon Battalion
Ben Finch
A theme I noticed from today's reading was separation and sacrifice. A lot of people had to separate from their families and make a ton of sacrifice. Reading the letter from Sally Randall was super interesting; you can see her pain in separation but also her faith and willingness to sacrifice. This idea is also reflected in Saints, with Drusilla Hendricks finding the courage to allow her son to go join the Mormon Battalion. Being from Iowa (Mt. Pisgah stake), I know how cruel and harsh the Iowa winters are, so I definitely feel for the pioneers who had very little.
