10 - Walkara's War and Native Resistance
Ben Finch
A theme I noticed from today's reading was miscommunication of intentions. I found it interesting that in MS Martenas statement, he talked about how the pioneers and natives were very friendly with each other, but that it was only down the line that things began to deteriorate. It seemed like to me, the pioneers should've been more upfront about their intentions when settling in the valley. I also found that the second source did a good job illustrating how non-human factors (i.e. famine) lead to violence. I had never heard about Indian Indentured Servitude before this and found it kind of odd that they saw it as a way to take care of the children.
