14 - The Bear River Massacre and the Black Hawk War

Ben Finch

Both the contemporary primary and modern day source do a great job explaining how tragic and brutal the massacre was. I had never heard of the bear river massacre before, even though I live pretty close to where it happened (Pocatello). I think it is interesting how direct and almost casual Peter Maughan was in addressing Brigham Young about the situation. It certainly seems like after some of the previous hardships the saints had faced they would have some sense of compassion and understanding for the Native Americans.
