He did this in 4 main ways:

1. Using Leitmotiv
2. Unending melody - continuous development of the melody throughout
3. Feature librettos written by him
4. Gesamtkunstwerk which translates as "Total Work of Art." This applies to the previous bullet point, but Wagner also influenced the sets, staging, and costuming.
