This reading was a bit of a downer for me. You can tell Jane desperately wanted to get her endowments and just be considered equal to her white peers in the Gospel. I think it is super interesting that she wanted to be adopted in Joseph Smith's family; I enjoyed reading the analysis about this in “Is There No Blessing for Me?”. I find it kind of insulting that the prophets sealed her as servant to Joseph Smith. It seems that from her letters, she was quite persistent, and knew that the prophets were also just men. It was also interesting that she wanted to be sealed to Walker Lewis.
