One main theme I noticed was the anti-American sentiment of most of the saints. I found this quote from the Brooklyn to be quite amusing: "There's that damned flag again!". This sentiment is also expressed in Saints, where there is a sense of urgency conveyed in the necessity of leaving. The primary source letter from Margaret West adds context as to why the saints were not enjoying America; I too would struggle to appreciate a country that murders and attacks your people.
