Chamber Music

• Refers to music performed by a group smaller than an orchestra
• 2-20 performers
• Called chamber music because it was made to be performed in someone's living room

• Mostly instrumental in the Baroque era

Sonata

• Multi-movement instrumental genre
• Usually solos
• Or solo + basso continuo
• Very popular in the Baroque Era

Suite

• Multi-movement instrumental genre
• First movement is an introduction
• Subsequent movements are based on dances (such as dance music of the renaissance)
• Very versatile - can be performed by many combinations of instruments

Trio Sonata

• Not necessarily performed by three people.
