Harper argues that even though the way the Law of Consecration has been applied has shifted over time, Latter-day Saints have the same obligation to live it as in the days past. He suggests that the notion that it is a higher law that the saints failed to live and thus we were given the law of tithing instead is false. He suggests that we should be more freely giving and consecration includes wise stewardship. In the revelations, we learn how Edward Partridge was called to be bishop of the church. We also see that the saints were chastised for failing to impart of their substance to the poor.
